Monday's Froggy Adventures

We had a fabulous first day of camp! We began the day preparing for our week of adventures by introducing ourselves and even sharing some stories about our summer. It is very important to have equal amounts of fun and safety in the woods so the group came up with a list of strategies that will keep everyone safe including stay with the group, listen to others, watch for poison ivy, do a tick check and be respectful to the animals. It is very important to leave nature as we found it, but once in a while a special treasure presents itself so we started the day by painting treasure boxes.

After getting our creek crawling gear we grabbed a snack before heading out into the Wissahickon.  We were focused on searching Frog City for some frogs today!  We found one right away!! It was perched on a log under a bush.

Ms. Hendrickson taught us all about Jewelweed.  It is called that because the leaves of the plant repel water and the droplets look like jewels.  Underwater the underside can also look silvery.

The Frogs were very tricky today and it was hard to find many!  Ms. Hendrickson did find one but it was very determined to get away!!  After leaping from her hands, Ms. Hendrickson and Ms. Moore tried and tried to get it back to observe but the frog in thorn bush won.

We still had fun searching anyway!!

After a hot day some good relaxing time with some books was a must!

On the playground we were reminded that you don't have to be in the woods to spot animals in their homes!  These caterpillars were making homes under the bark of a tree near the swings!
